Ice Facial: How? What? & Why?

Ice Facials, what are they all about?


Icing, the use of ice to reduce inflammation and enhance facial glow, has been used by women and men for centuries starting in ancient Ayurvedic and Myriad cultures. The process is not glam, kinda painful, and definitely out of the ordinary - BUT it works, it really does.

So how do you do it? Why do you do it? What are the benefits? Below i’ll answer some of the biggest questions I receive surrounding this morning ritual of mine, and also share some helpful articles too!

How do you Ice?

  • First grab a bowl thats larger that your face, i’d say 10 inches across, fill the bowl with 2 cups of ice and then fill the remainder of the bowl with ice cold water

  • Let the ice sit for about a minute or two so that the water becomes “ice cold”

  • Pull your hair back into a bun, place a towel around your neck so you don’t get your shirt wet, grab another towel to dry your face at the end and prop the bowl up onto your kitchen or bathroom counter, aka somewhere that can handle splashes of water

  • Once you’re prepped and ready, place your entire face and as much of your neck into the bowl of ice water and count until 10 (Mississippi ’s included)

  • Do this up to 3 times, aka 30 seconds total - if you can handle more, go for it!

  • Partially dry your face and immediately put on some moisturizer

Why do you Ice?

Icing allows for face to have that: I just ventured into the tundra, skin tight, lips and cheeks flushed, doll like look. It contracts your skin and pores, tightening them both and allowing for your face to have a smoother more polished complexion.

What are the benefits?

Benefits include: reduction in puffy-ness around the eyes, reduction in irritation & inflammation, tightened skin, reduction in wrinkles, & a fresh glowing face. Do you need anymore reason?!
